HomeHub Community Support
Practical help, donated smart home equipment and free safety advice for local people who need technology to feel safer at home.
Safety Should Not Only Belong to People Who Can Afford It
Home technology can make a real difference: a camera that shows who is at the door, a sensor that reassures family someone is moving around normally, a better WiFi connection so emergency calls and alerts work properly.
Some households need that help most at exactly the moment they can least afford it. That is why we are building a small community support programme alongside our paid installation work.
In Immediate Danger?
If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999. If it is not safe to speak, use the silent solution by pressing 55 when prompted.
For domestic abuse support in the UK, contact the free National Domestic Abuse Helpline on 0808 2000 247 or visit nationaldahelpline.org.uk.
Three Practical Routes
This is deliberately simple: reuse good equipment, install it safely, and share knowledge before problems become emergencies.
Equipment Recycling
We accept suitable donated smart home and safety equipment, reset it, check it, and reuse it where it can genuinely help.
Safety Installations
Where there is a clear need, we can install donated equipment at reduced or no cost, prioritising people who are vulnerable or at risk.
Free Advice Talks
We speak at coffee mornings and community groups about home safety, scams, CCTV, smart devices, WiFi and elderly care technology.
A Recycled Doorbell That Changed How Someone Felt at Home
A donated camera doorbell was recently installed for a local resident affected by domestic abuse. She could not afford the equipment herself, but being able to see who was outside before opening the door made an immediate difference to how safe she felt at home.
We are sharing that example carefully and without identifying details because the point is not publicity. The point is that small pieces of technology, installed properly and respectfully, can make everyday life feel safer for someone who needs support.
Stand With Us and Help Make Homes Safer
HomeHub can do more when other local businesses step in too. If you have time, materials, equipment or practical skills, there is a way to help.
Donate Materials
Cable, fixings, sensors, cameras, doorbells, network kit and small installation materials can turn a good intention into a finished job.
Give Time
Electricians, builders, decorators, locksmiths, IT support and other trades can help when a safety install needs more than one pair of hands.
Join a Project
Charities, councils, landlords and community groups can work with us on specific homes, safety talks or donation drives.
We are not asking businesses to sponsor a logo. We are asking them to stand up locally, offer what they can, and help people who need safety and reassurance at home.
Donate, Refer or Invite Us
We cannot promise to help every request, but we will always treat sensitive situations with care and honesty.
Donate Equipment
Video doorbells, cameras, sensors, smart plugs, mesh WiFi and similar equipment may be useful if working, safe and resettable.
Refer Someone
If you are a family member, neighbour, support worker or charity, tell us what is needed and what would make the home safer.
Book a Talk
Coffee mornings, carers groups, residents' meetings and local charities can invite us for practical, jargon-free safety advice.
Frequently Asked Questions
What equipment can be donated?
We can consider clean, working smart home and safety equipment such as video doorbells, cameras, sensors, mesh WiFi units and smart plugs. Equipment must be safe, resettable and suitable for reuse.
Who can ask for community support?
Local residents, family members, support workers, charities and community groups can contact us. We look at each request individually and prioritise safety, vulnerability and practical impact.
Do you publish details about people you help?
No identifying details are published without clear consent, and sensitive situations are kept private. Where we share examples, they are anonymised and focused on the support provided, not the person's circumstances.
Can HomeHub speak at a coffee morning or community group?
Yes. We can offer free, practical safety advice talks for local groups, including smart home basics, scams, CCTV, video doorbells, WiFi safety and support for older or vulnerable residents.
Can local businesses support the programme?
Yes. Local businesses can support the programme by donating suitable equipment or materials, giving time, referring households through trusted local organisations, or joining specific community safety projects with HomeHub.
